The cat, the reverend and the slave.

I am a persone who is really septic about social media, even if I’m always on facebook and I know that it’s not because of Finland because I know that the best way to keep contact with my friends and family is Skype. But I’m someone who is very curious, and I want to know what happen in my “friends’” life. But I know that it’s not a real life, I know how to make the difference. Anyway I’m coming to the subject.

When we’ve worked in class about social media, we talk about Second life and it remember me that when I was at university in France, I took part to a video course. My teacher was a young film director, and he showed us some of his production, it was The cat, the reverend and the slave and Newborns. They talk about people who are kind of addicted by Second life and show why they were so addicted about it.

I didn’t change my mind but when I saw that movie I understood that social media are not so bad as we can think. In the movie there is this for exemple who is very shy, he “plays” on since a wile and he met a girl on it, he said that it would never happened in real life, and finally they get married for real. Maybe they missed something because they met in virtual life but whatever they are happy now with their love story. And it’s not because it’s not the traditional way to make it that it’s not good, it’s just different.

There is also something very interesting in this movie at the and, it the part about Burning man, who is an event organizes in the North Nevada desert by an utopist community, every years. This community is also on second life, and there is a lot of people who knows it, and goes there because of second life.

So it proves for real that social media, is a sort of pre-connexion between people. And then, it’s up to the people to move from their chair and go out to meet friends for real, if they want. People just have to learn how to use this kind of material in a good way for themself.

When I watched this movie I was at the time like “They are totally crazy” and “Wahou, it’s possible and it’s kind of really usefull for few people”. I can say that this movie made me feel a lot of emotion, and made me have a new opinion about social media.

Carte Blanche, sponsorship?

In summer 2008 one of my friends showed us a book : Invitation d’artistes , it was a kind of work book for artistes, promoted by part the of France where I did my bachelord : Picardie. It make us think that we could pick up the some artistes from the book and make exibition by our own included them every month during the all school year. It was the starting point of our project called Carte Blanche.

This is through this project that I want to talk about sponsorship. Because for me, in fact there is two kind of sponsorship: subventions, and “real” sponsors. Well we know that subventions is only about money to help for exemple an artist or a project, and sponsor ships is more like commercial exchange, and can give money OR material to be more visible.

But for the project we did with my friends, subventions and sponsors had the same statue. Our previsional budget was about 1800 euros for the all project. So we’ve been to my university council, and ask it to give 1000 euros for the project, and it accept, We’ve been to the CROUS1 to ask them to give 500 euros for the project, and they did it. So these two subvention groups just gave money for the project, BUT they also have been visible on the posters of the event because we had to put the logo on it. Si it’s for me a kind of sponsorship because there is a exchange where both part of the project can obteins something: money for us, visibility for them.

The real sponsorship we had was BNP Paribas. We needed a account to put the money, and we also missed the last 300 euros to make the project. So we’ve made the bank our sponsor, in exchange of the bank visibility during the all project the bank gave us the 300 euros and made us able to open an account for free.

So, it the reason why I told that sponsorship and subventions were the same in our project, because finally they gave us, and we gave them pretty the same for both of the types of partners.

Art work/advertising

Our marketing courses about Advertising have given me the opportunity to think about the integration of art in advertising. So I start to make research about the using of famous art work in advertising. And I really started to notice that sometime in advertising, some very famous art work are use to show, illustrate, or represent a product. It’s in fact something use in french advertising, and it takes part of our everyday life even if we don’t obviously notice it.

Perrier/Arcimboldo

This advertising is for Perrier, a french sparkling water. To illustrate the product, an Arcimboldo work have been used. As Arcimboldo work, the caracter in the advertising is made of fruit, in that case of green and yellow lemon, who are part of the ingredient of this flavored Perrier, we can notice to that caracter remember to the costumer the bottle used by Perrier.

In that case, the using of art work makes able the costumer to feel like an artiste, and consider the product that he will buy as a art work. It’s a process used a lot in advertising, because it makes the costumer has a very good esteem of himself and consider the product as a masterpiece.

La laitière( Nestle)/Vermeer

http://www.ina.fr/pub/alimentation-boisson/video/PUB973827029/yaourt-nature-la-laitiere-revolution-yaourt.fr.html

This advertising is for La laitière (Nestle), a yogourt brand. The logo is a from a painting of Vermeer. The caracter is a woman who is pouring milk in a container. She’s representing the product as if she is doing the yogourt herself.

In this case, the using of  this art worked illustrates that the yogourts hav been made as in the olden times. It proves the quality of the product. Although this painting the costumer can feel that the yogourts La laitière are made with tradition and authenticity.

What I like especially in this advertising is that it’s about the french revolution. And it’s like an humoristique advertising because La Laitière stops the Revolution because of her yogourt. So it makes the costumer think about “What would happened if it would be like that?”

So as I can understand know about art work used for advertising, is that it’s a real plus factor for brands. It’s use to make the costumer  being that the product he wants to by is very good, because it’s represented through culture. And make him think he is important and proud of himself because he recognized the cultural reference. So finally I think that it could be very dangerous, because art would become a excuse for consommation.

On more thing, it’s not in the subject but I just want to put it as a wink relative to my subject. It’s the representation of woman by art in the Desparate Houswivesintroduction.
